On December 31, 1918, the Chicago White Sox hire Kid Gleason as their manager. Gleason replaces Pants Rowland, who was fired after the Sox finished in fifth place.

December 26, 1964

On December 26, 1964, the Seattle Angels of the Pacific Coast League name Bob Lemon their new manager. Lemon, who last pitched in the majors in 1958, will eventually become the manager of the Kansas City Royals in 1970.
