Field Trip FAQs
How do I book a field trip?
When you are ready to begin the registration process please fill out our field trip request form. You will be contacted by a member of our education team in regards to your request.
How much does it cost to bring a group to the Baseball Hall of Fame?
The cost of a Hall of Fame field trip is $6.00 per student. A discounted rate of $5.00 per student is available to members of the Museum. Click here to learn more about our membership program.
One chaperone per 10 students is admitted to the Baseball Hall of Fame free of charge. Additional adults are required to pay general admission rates. Click here to see our current admission rates including discounted AAA, military, and senior rates.
Are there restroom facilities available?
Restrooms are available throughout the building and time is allowed at different points before, during and after your program to use the facilities.
How many chaperones are we required to bring?
The Baseball Hall of Fame requires a 1:10 ratio of chaperones to students. This means that for every 10 children, under the age of 18, one chaperone must be in attendance and supervising the group while the students are on the Hall of Fame's property.
What do the teachers and chaperones do during tour?
Chaperones are responsible for the supervision of the students during the field trip program. They must stay with their students at all times.
Where can I eat lunch?
Numerous outdoor park facilities are located throughout the village of Cooperstown during the warmer months. Immediately outside the village there is a McDonalds and a Pizza Hut that can accommodate large groups. Groups traveling great distances often choose to eat on the bus either before or after their visit to the Hall of Fame, or may choose to stop at a preselected location during their travels.
Indoor spaces and restaurant facilities are limited within the village of Cooperstown, and food is not permitted on the grounds of the Baseball Hall of Fame. Please plan accordingly!
Where do our buses park?
Bus parking (and general parking) is limited, varies based on the time of year, and is neither guaranteed nor provided by the Baseball Hall of Fame. As the busy tourist season approaches, parking becomes even more limited. Scheduling your field trip during off peak months (outside of May-August) may help eliminate the stress of parking in Cooperstown.
Limited parking during the summer months is available at the Chamber of Commerce and in the Cooperstown Trolley Lots on the outskirts of town. It is the responsibility of the school to make their own parking arrangements. Beyond making general suggestions, the Baseball Hall of Fame is not able to assist in this process.
What units are appropriate for what grade level?
Visit our curriculum page to learn more about all of our available programs. Our curriculum exists in three levels, Rookie, Intermediate and Advanced. Please peruse the pre-program and follow-up activities to determine what level would best fit the needs of your students.
The Baseball Hall of Fame deals with a nation wide audience. The listed grades are only guidelines. Teachers should decide the appropriate level for their students based on the content of the program and not on the listed grade level. Please carefully read through the unit content before deciding which level is best for your class.
Can I take pictures?
Yes! You are free to take as many pictures as you like, we just ask that any posed group shots be taken after the tour is over so as not to break up the learning experience.
How long do the field trips last?
The field trip experience can be customized to fit the needs of a particular group. The number of activities you choose to participate in, whether or not you participate in a guided tour, and the amount of time you spend in the museum store or exploring the museum on your own will effect the length of your trip. The average Hall of Fame field trip lasts between 2 ½ and 3 hours from arrival to departure.
Is there a way to incorporate what we're doing in our classroom with our experience at the Baseball Hall of Fame?
Absolutely! Check out our curriculum page for activities that you can complete with your class prior to your visit to the Hall of Fame. We find that students who complete at least one pre-visit activity enjoy and benefit from their experience significantly more than the students who do not.
While you're there, also download our post-visit activities to reinforce your experience at the Baseball Hall of Fame when you get back to the classroom.
Additionally, let us support your creative classroom experiences! When you schedule your tour, if there is a book you're reading about a baseball player, or anything specific regarding baseball that your class has been studying, please let us know and we will do our best to tailor your tour to reinforce what you've been teaching in the classroom.
Can we come back?
Admission to the museum is included with your ticket and is good for the entire day of your visit. In addition, included for every student is a complimentary ticket to return to the Baseball Hall of Fame that is good for one year after your visit. We encourage you to distribute these tickets to your students as it is our hope that they will come back and visit us with their families, on their own time.
