A collection for all-time
The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is committed to preserving each of the just under 40,000-plus three-dimensional artifacts in the permanent collection.
Museum curators utilize the artifacts to tell the story of nearly two centuries of baseball history. Artifacts are rotated through the Museum's timeline and other exhibits regularly, and are housed in the Museum's climate-controlled archive when not on display.
Gifts to the Museum allow visitors to appreciate the object's historic and cultural significance in a broader visual context.
The Museum's Accessions Committee accepts approximately four hundred new artifacts every year.

This Day in Baseball History
On May 23, 1927, Hack Wilson of the Chicago Cubs becomes the first player to hit a home run that strikes the center field scoreboard at Wrigley Field. The monumental blast helps the Cubs to a 14-8 win over the Boston Braves. After the game, Wilson will be arrested for drinking beer - a violation of Prohibition law.
