Baseball Writers’ Association of America Election Results Revealed Wednesday, Jan. 8
Announcement to be Carried Live on MLB Network and Simulcast on MLB.com and Baseballhall.org; Class of 2014 Enshrined July 27
(COOPERSTOWN, NY) – The most anticipated moment of the baseball year comes Wednesday, Jan. 8, with the announcement of the results of the annual Baseball Writers’ Association of America Hall of Fame election.
The results of the 71st BBWAA Hall of Fame election will be revealed at 2 p.m. ET on Jan. 8. MLB Network will carry the announcement live as Hall of Fame President Jeff Idelson delivers the results. The announcement will also be simulcast on MLB.com and at baseballhall.org.
The 2014 BBWAA ballot features 36 players, including 19 new candidates and 17 returnees. Any candidate who receives votes on at least 75 percent of all ballots cast will be enshrined into the Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2014 along with managers Bobby Cox, Tony La Russa and Joe Torre, all of whom were elected by the Expansion Era Committee in December.
The 36 candidates (with the returnees in bold and their 2013 BBWAA election percentage in parenthesis) include: Moises Alou, Jeff Bagwell (59.6%), Armando Benitez, Craig Biggio (68.2%), Barry Bonds (36.2%), Sean Casey, Roger Clemens (37.6%), Ray Durham, Eric Gagne, Tom Glavine, Luis Gonzalez, Jacque Jones, Todd Jones, Jeff Kent, Paul Lo Duca, Greg Maddux, Edgar Martinez (35.9%), Don Mattingly (13.2%), Fred McGriff (20.7%), Mark McGwire (16.9%), Jack Morris (67.7%), Mike Mussina, Hideo Nomo, Rafael Palmeiro (8.8%), Mike Piazza (57.8%), Tim Raines (52.2%), Kenny Rogers, Curt Schilling (38.8%), Richie Sexson, Lee Smith (47.8%), J.T. Snow, Sammy Sosa (12.5%), Frank Thomas, Mike Timlin, Alan Trammell (33.6%) and Larry Walker (21.6%).
The Class of 2014 will be enshrined July 27 in Cooperstown as part of the July 25-28 Induction Weekend. Admission to the 1:30 p.m. Induction Ceremony at Cooperstown’s Clark Sports Center is free and open to the public. For more information, please visit www.baseballhall.org.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is open seven days a week year round, with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
