Big League Heroes to Cheer on BASE Race Runners during 5K and 10K Runs Saturday in Cooperstown

New Courses Start and End at Doubleday Field; Races Support Museum’s ‘Be A Superior Example’ Program

(COOPERSTOWN, NY) Big league heroes are accustomed to hearing cheers on the field. But at Saturday’s BASE Race in Cooperstown, the big leaguers will be doing the cheering as five MLB fan-favorites support runners during a pair of road races at the home of baseball.

Former big leaguers Jeff Conine, Adam Everett, Mark Kotsay, Kerry Robinson and Jim Thome will be among the throngs supporting the BASE Race runners during the 5K and 10K road races on Saturday as part of Hall of Fame Classic Weekend. Both courses start and end at historic Doubleday Field, winding through the village on routes showcasing the pastoral beauty of Central New York.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, along with Cooperstown’s Clark Sports Center, will present the third annual BASE Race charity runs, with the 5K fun run starting at 8:15 a.m. and a competitive 10K event at 8 a.m. The BASE Race moves from an August date to coincide with the Hall of Fame Classic, which features the Home Run Derby at 1 p.m. and a seven-inning legends game at 2 p.m. and includes Hall of Famers Roberto AlomarAndre DawsonRollie FingersEddie MurrayPhil Niekro and Ozzie Smith, along with recently retired players including Conine, Everett, Kotsay, Robinson and Thome representing each of the 30 major league teams.

Tickets for the 2014 Hall of Fame Classic are on sale now at or by calling 1-877-726-9028 and are $12.50 for first and third base seats and $11 for general admission outfield seats. Tickets are only available via phone or online.

Runners are encouraged to wear apparel in support of their favorite team as part of the 2014 BASE Race, which is the lead-off event to a full day of programming for the Hall of Fame Classic, presented by Ford Motor Company.  The race events benefit the Museum’s “Be A Superior Example” program promoting healthy lifestyle choices for individuals of all ages.

Registration for the 2014 BASE Race is $25 and $50 for families. Signups are now being accepted online at Each registered runner will receive a T-shirt (for the first 300 runners to register), goodie bag, a free general admission ticket to the Hall of Fame Classic and an admission ticket to the Museum valid on May 24. On race day, registration will be $40 for individuals and $65 for families.
