Cooperstown Visitors Treated to Another Memorable Weekend as Calendar Turns to August

Saturday’s Cinema Under the Stars Features Screening of ‘Field of Dreams’

(COOPERSTOWN, NY) The historic 2014 Hall of Fame Induction Weekend is in the books, but a memorable summer in Cooperstown is still providing thrills and entertainment for Otsego County visitors and local residents alike as the calendar turns to August this weekend. 

Fans of the iconic baseball film Field of Dreams can watch the 1989 classic under the stars at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2 at Cinema Under the Stars at Cooperstown’s Lakefront Park on the shores of beautiful Otsego Lake. Presented by Otsego 2000/Glimmerglass Film Days, the Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce, the Village of Cooperstown and Brewery Ommegang, Saturday’s event also features a performance by the band Moonalice from 7-9 p.m. on the Lakefront Park bandstand. 

The night of entertainment is free and open to the public. Fans are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets for lawn seating. 

In addition to Saturday evening’s concert/cinema at Lakefront Park, Cooperstown will host several family-friendly events this weekend, including:

Friday, Aug. 1

A performance of the musical Carousel at the Glimmerglass Festival

The Diane Wicks-Miller Quartet at The Otesaga Resort Hotel

Conor Oberst, Dawes and The Baseball Project in concert at Brewery Ommegang 

Sunday, Aug. 3

A performance of the opera Madame Butterfly at the Glimmerglass Festival

Old Crow Medicine Show in concert at Brewery Ommegang

This weekend’s events follows a Hall of Fame Weekend for the record books in Cooperstown. A four-day total of 24,706 fans visited the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum July 25-28 as the Village of Cooperstown hosted an estimated 48,000 fans just for the July 27 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at the Clark Sports Center. The four-day Museum total marked the fifth-best mark in the history of Hall of Fame Weekend, and the Museum single-day totals for Saturday, July 26 and Sunday, July 27 rank in the Top 11 all-time for Hall of Fame Weekend. 

Hall of Fame Weekend 2015 will be held July 24-27, with the Induction Ceremony on July 26. For more information, please visit www.baseballhall.org.
