Father’s Day Weekend 2012 to Feature Hall of Fame Classic on Saturday, June 16

Popular Legends Game, Parade Leadoff Weekend Salute to Dads, Families

November 29, 2011

COOPERSTOWN, NY – The celebration of fathers and families over Father’s Day Weekend will return for a fourth consecutive year in 2012, with a shift to the weekend schedule, as the Hall of Fame Classic at Doubleday Field will move from Sunday to Saturday, highlighting a new lineup for Cooperstown’s start-of-summer salute to the game’s legends.

The 2012 Hall of Fame Classic, presented by Ford Motor Company, will feature six Hall of Famers and more than 20 former major league players at Doubleday Field at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, one day earlier than the event has been played on its traditional Father’s Day Sunday in its first three years. The Cooperstown Game Day Parade will lead-off Saturday’s festivities at 12 noon on Main Street, featuring the game’s participants and dignitaries, and the Classic Hitting Contest will precede the game’s first pitch at 1 p.m.

Other activities featured throughout Father’s Day Weekend at Doubleday Field include a Youth Skills Clinic on Friday afternoon, a roundtable discussion with the participating Hall of Famers on Saturday evening following the Classic, and a family catch on Sunday morning.

“We have experienced great success with the Hall of Fame Classic and Classic Weekend in its first three years, with the support of visitors, the game’s players, Ford Motor Company, the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association, and the entire Cooperstown community,” said Jeff Idelson, President of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. “We listened to visitors about their ability to attend the game on Father’s Day, and we believe that the switch to Saturday enables a larger potential pool of families to experience this wonderful Cooperstown tradition. We look forward to building on the successes of the first three Classic events in 2012.”

The 2012 Hall of Fame Classic, presented by Ford Motor Company, will once again be hosted in conjunction with the Major League Baseball Players’ Alumni Association. The Hall of Fame and MLBPAA will also co-host the Friday night Youth Skills Clinic, featuring nearly a dozen former major league stars.
