Hall of Fame Launches New ¡Viva Baseball! Online Exhibit
Museum’s Showcase of Latin American Love of Baseball Now Featured on Web
June 03, 2010
COOPERSTOWN, NY – Baseball has evolved from America’s National Pastime to a worldwide passion, and nowhere does the passion beat stronger than in Latin America.
Now, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is taking its celebration of Latin American baseball to the world via a new online exhibit. The interactive version of ¡Viva Baseball! is now accessible here, with a complete Spanish language version available here. Featuring many of the artifacts displayed in the Museum’s Viva Baseball exhibit in Cooperstown, the online version allows fans around the world to enjoy the many treasures featured from Latino stars of the game.
¡Viva Baseball!, which opened as a permanent exhibit at the Cooperstown museum in 2009, features nearly 150 artifacts and a state-of-the-art multi-media presentation celebrating the passion of the Latin love affair with baseball, spanning nearly 150 years of history. The exhibit focuses on the rich baseball traditions of the major baseball-playing countries of the region: Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Venezuela.
In video interviews located throughout the exhibit, Latin American Hall of Famers and major league All-Stars provide first-hand accounts for playing in their homeland, their journey to the major leagues and insight into what makes Caribbean baseball special.
The online exhibit is an extension of the real-world one and will feature frequent updates, including tracking the accomplishments of Latinos in today’s game.
