Annual Event Launches Seniors Open at Leatherstocking Golf Course; Event Benefits Pathfinder Village and Hall of Fame’s Educational Programs
COOPERSTOWN, NY – Ron Santo’s induction to the Baseball Hall of Fame was the highlight of the Summer of Chicago in Cooperstown. Now, Santo’s former Cubs teammate Ferguson Jenkins adds more Cubbies flavor as he hosts the traditional post-Labor Day Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open Pro-Am Sept. 4 in the village that is the home of baseball.
Jenkins, a 1991 Hall of Fame inductee who spent eight seasons playing with Santo with the Cubs, is the celebrity host for the 30th Annual Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open and Pro-Am Golf Tournament, Sept. 4-7 at the Leatherstocking Golf Course in Cooperstown. Jenkins will participate in the Sept. 4 Pro-Am, while nearly 100 top pros from around the country are expected to compete in the Seniors Open, which runs Wednesday through Friday, Sept. 5-7.
As the Pro-Am emcee, Jenkins – who won 284 big league games and the 1971 National League Cy Young Award – will be featured throughout the Tuesday, Sept. 4 Pro-Am and as the speaker at the fundraiser dinner. The golf event begins with an 11:30 a.m. shotgun start. For more information on the Pro-Am or to register to play, please visit www.pathfindervillage.org .
Proceeds from this event benefit Pathfinder Village located in nearby Edmeston, a residential community dedicated to children and adults with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities. Annually, the Seniors Open raises more than $50,000 for scholarships for Pathfinder Village and directly helps the Village’s 90-plus residents. More than $2 million has been raised for Pathfinder Village through the years.
Proceeds also benefit the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum educational programs, which enables the world-famous Museum to fulfill its educational mission and care for its priceless collections.
The Otesaga Resort Hotel is the tournament’s title sponsor and has been instrumental in the tournament’s success.
