PLAY Ball with Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith Leads Off Hall of Fame Weekend at Doubleday Field
Interact with The Wizard and Special Guests Paul Molitor and Bruce Sutter at the Museum’s Annual Education Fundraiser July 23
COOPERSTOWN, NY – He blazed a trail across the baseball world for parts of three decades, forever changing the game with fielding accomplishments never before seen.
He received baseball’s ultimate honor in the 2002, earning Hall of Fame election for his outstanding 19-year big league career that featured 15 All-Star Game selections and 13 Gold Gloves at shortstop.
Now, Ozzie Smith, is committed to giving back to the game he loves. On July 23, that commitment will come alive for some fortunate fans at the annual PLAY Ball event at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown.
Smith, the Hall of Fame’s Education Ambassador, hosts PLAY Ball with Ozzie Smith – an annual fundraiser for the Museum’s educational programs. Hall of Famer’s Paul Molitor and Bruce Sutter will join Smith at PLAY Ball to give fans a unique chance to experience on-field moments with Hall of Famers.
Off the field, Smith has worked tirelessly for the Museum promoting the Hall of Fame’s learning initiatives.
“I so look forward to bringing this event back to Cooperstown for the ninth time during Hall of Fame Weekend 2010,” said Smith. “The event has helped bring awareness to the Hall of Fame's education programs, and in helping bring interns to Cooperstown for a hands-on learning experience. It is a great honor that Paul Molitor and Bruce Sutter will be joining me for this interactive and entertaining afternoon at Doubleday Field.”
Participants in PLAY Ball each receive on-field round-robin interaction with the Hall of Famers along with special mementos to commemorate their experience. The event will begin at 1 p.m. July 23 at historic Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, and is part of the July 23-26 Hall of Fame Weekend activities that will be highlighted by the July 25 Induction Ceremony when Andre Dawson, Doug Harvey and Whitey Herzog will be enshrined as the Class of 2010.
