Tickets First Available Saturday for Cooperstown’s Father’s Day Classic, Featuring Five Hall of Famers

COOPERSTOWN, NY – Baseball’s newest hit returns this Father’s Day Weekend as the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum hosts the fourth annual Hall of Fame Classic, presented by Ford Motor Company, June 15-17 in Cooperstown.

The Hall of Fame Classic, a legends game at historic Doubleday Field featuring more than two dozen former major league stars, including five Hall of Famers, moves to Saturday, June 16, continuing a Father’s Day Weekend of programs and special events for baseball fans of all ages.

Tickets for the 2012 Hall of Fame Classic will first be available beginning this Saturday, April 14, at 9 a.m. ET, at the Museum, online at baseballhall.org or by phone by calling 1-866-849-7770. The new date for 2012 marks a shift from the Sunday game date, held on the first three years of this new tradition.

Hall of Famers Bert Blyleven, Eddie Murray, Phil Niekro, Tony Pérez, and Ozzie Smith will headline the Hall of Fame Classic. Former big leaguers Jesse Barfield, Brian Boehringer, Ben Davis, John Doherty, Brian Fisher, Todd Haney, Jim Hannan, Howard Johnson, Jack Lazorko, Rob Mackowiak, Russ Ortiz, Desi Relaford, Shane Reynolds and Rick Wise have already committed to appear at the Classic, with more players to be announced this spring. The 2012 Hall of Fame Classic will once again be staged in conjunction with the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association.

“We listened to fans about their ability to attend the game on Father’s Day, and we believe that the switch to Saturday enables a larger potential pool of families to experience this wonderful Cooperstown tradition,” said Jeff Idelson, President of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. “We look forward to building on the successes of the first three Classics in 2012.”

Hall of Fame Classic Weekend will feature a slate of family friendly activities, highlighted by the return of the Hall of Fame Classic at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 16. Other activities planned for Classic Weekend include a Hall of Fame golf tournament fundraiser for the Museum, the Youth Skills Clinic hosted by several former major league players, a special Voices of the Game program featuring Hall of Fame members, the fan-favorite Family Catch on Doubleday Field, and other unique programs throughout the Museum.

Tickets are $12.50 for first and third base seats and $11 for outfield seats. Ticket buyers may first line up at the Museum at 6 a.m. on April 16. Overnight camping is not permitted. The 2012 Hall of Fame Classic will be preceded by the Cooperstown Game Day Parade, on Main Street, hosted by the Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce, the village of Cooperstown and the Hall of Fame. The pre-game hitting contest will begin at 1 p.m., featuring the game’s participants.

On Friday, June 15, the Museum will host the Legends for Youth Skills Clinic, from 4-7 p.m. at Doubleday Field. Hosted in conjunction with the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association, the Clinic gives youth participants ages 5-12 a chance to learn hands-on training from several former major league stars. At 7 p.m. on June 16, the five Hall of Fame members will be featured in a Voices of the Game roundtable discussion of baseball at Doubleday Field in a one-hour reflection on their memories of the game. On Father’s Day, June 17, the Hall of Fame will host Family Catch and Kids Run the Bases from 9-11 a.m. at Doubleday Field. A limited number of participants can reserve a spot for this free event by calling 607-547-0397.

The third annual Cooperstown Golf Classic on Sunday, June 17 will feature Hall of Famers Blyleven, Murray, Niekro, Pérez, Smith and serve as a fundraiser for the Hall of Fame's educational programs. A unique social experience providing memories and camaraderie that will last a lifetime, golfers of any ability will enjoy a private cocktail reception in the Hall of Fame plaque gallery, breakfast on the Leatherstocking Golf Course clubhouse verandah, a round of golf in a scramble format at Leatherstocking, and conclude with a luncheon and awards ceremony, all in the company of the Hall of Famers.
