2011 BBWAA Election Results to be announced Wednesday, Jan. 5

The 2011 Hall of Fame ballots have been returned to the BBWAA from 10-year Baseball Writers' Association of America (BBWAA) members. Results will be announced Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 2 p.m. ET at www.baseballhall.org and the announcement will be televised live on MLB Network with Hall of Fame President Jeff Idelson. A live video stream of the announcement will be a carried at MLB.com.
Wednesday's announcement will feature Hall of Fame President Jeff Idelson delivering the results live on MLB Network at 2 p.m. ET. The press conference with any new electees will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. ET, and it will be televised on MLB Network and streamed on MLB.com.
The 2011 BBWAA ballot features 33 players, including 19 new candidates and 14 returnees. The complete ballot includes: Roberto Alomar, Carlos Baerga, Jeff Bagwell, Harold Baines, Bert Blyleven, Bret Boone, Kevin Brown, John Franco, Juan Gonzalez, Marquis Grissom, Lenny Harris, Bobby Higginson, Charles Johnson, Barry Larkin, Al Leiter, Edgar Martinez, Tino Martinez, Don Mattingly, Fred McGriff, Mark McGwire, Raul Mondesi, Jack Morris, Dale Murphy, John Olerud, Rafael Palmeiro, Dave Parker, Tim Raines, Kirk Rueter, Benito Santiago, Lee Smith, B.J. Surhoff, Alan Trammell and Larry Walker.
Andre Dawson (77.9%) was the only BBWAA candidates elected last year. Kevin Appier, Ellis Burks, Andres Galarraga, Pat Hentgen, Mike Jackson, Eric Karros, Ray Lankford, Shane Reynolds, David Segui, Robin Ventura and Todd Zeile each received less than 5% of the vote in their first year in 2010 and are no longer eligible for consideration by the BBWAA. All will be eligible for consideration by the Expansion Era Committee beginning in 2025.
The Class of 2011 will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame at 1:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 24 at the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown. The Class of 2011 will feature three-time World Series winning general manager Pat Gillick, plus anyone elected in the Baseball Writers' Association of America election. 2011 Ford C. Frick Award winner Dave Van Horne will also be honored during the July 22-25 Induction Weekend, as will 2011 Spink Award winner Bill Conlin.
