Internship Positions Available

The Frank and Peggy Steele Internship Program for Youth Leadership Development provides meaningful, hands-on training in numerous professional careers while learning and working in the company of baseball's best-known personalities during the annual Hall of Fame Weekend and Induction Ceremony, held in Cooperstown each summer.

To be considered for the Steele Internship Program, students must have completed at least their sophomore year and be enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program at a college or university during the internship, or have just graduated in May of 2015. All Steele interns receive a bi-weekly stipend during the ten weeks of the program and access to affordable student housing. If fulfilling an academic requirement, college credit may also be awarded.

Collections

Interns in the collections department will be responsible for research, cataloging, digital photography, inventory, condition reporting, data-entry and rehousing of specific divisions of the permanent collection. Divisions of the collection include uniforms, caps, bats, baseballs, gloves, ballpark artifacts, personal artifacts, artwork, textiles, masks, shoes, plaques/trophies, tickets and cards. Each year, a different division of the museum collection is chosen as a primary focus for inventory, re-housing, condition reporting and digital photography. On-going artifact-based projects are also available subject to departmental needs and conservation recommendations.

Development

Membership interns assist the Museum’s fundraising efforts – primarily focused on helping to increase enrollment in the Hall of Fame membership program

Working face-to-face and over the phone, interns practice salesmanship and learn about the department’s business practices and marketing initiatives. The interns develop business etiquette and gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment. Ideal candidates possess the following skill set: good verbal communication, high energy, great attention to detail, well organized, coachable, customer service focused and are ready to have fun.

Majors in business administration, marketing, sports management or non-profit management preferred.

Digital Strategy

This Digital Strategy intern will assist in laying the groundwork for an ongoing project to make Museum’s collections available and searchable online. Under the supervision of the Digital Strategy department, the intern will help to develop a schema and a controlled vocabulary for the key wording of the collection, by way of historical, material, and other descriptive elements. The intern will be expected to gain familiarity with the museum’s digital asset management system (Islandora). Over the course of the internship, the intern will help to make recommendations for a standardized keyword vocabulary, take preliminary steps towards implementing the schema and ingest digital assets with attached metadata. The intern will also assist in interpreting the collection and creating content for the Museum’s website, social media and other digital channels.

Education - Public Programs

Working in the Education Department, the public programs interns serve to enhance the visitor experience.

Typical Duties
Interns will develop and present programs in the museum on a daily basis
Planning of major events such as the All-Star Gala.

Have a learning enthusiasm for speaking publicly
Shows energy, zeal, creativity and eagerness to work with families in a fun and engaging manner.
Flexible disposition
The ideal candidate will offer experience in museum work, teaching, drama or historical interpretation.

Library Research

The research department interns will assist in the day-to-day operations of a major specialized library.

Typical Duties
-Assist patrons by providing research material and answering questions
-Retrieve and re-shelve library material
-Assist staff members with fact-checking
-Assist with document conservation

Library- Photo Archives

Interns in the Photo Archive will primarily be responsible for researching, describing, and digitizing photographic collections. Projects include processing, rehousing, inventorying, creating finding aids, cataloguing photographs in the on-line catalogue, and scanning images. Interns will have an opportunity to develop specific projects based on their particular research interests or team/player loyalties. Interns may also assist in answering image research inquiries and processing photo orders.

Multimedia

The selected intern will assist in the storytelling operations of the Hall of Fame and Museum during the Summer of 2015. He/she will assist in coverage of our major summer events such as the Hall of Fame Classic, Induction Weekend and more. The Multimedia Intern will write, produce, shoot and edit content for the Hall of Fame’s social media outlets as well as complete stories/videos assigned by the multimedia staff. The Multimedia Intern will assist in the weekly completion of current baseball season highlight reels for use within the Museum exhibits, and will assist in various video shoots and audio productions serving as camera operator, video editor, lighting coordinator and audio recording operator as necessary and assigned. Experience in writing for video, proper operation of digital cameras, an eye for great video and an ear for great stories and non-linear editing experience (Final Cut Pro, Adobe Creative Suite) preferred.

Public Relations

The Public Relations intern will assist the Communications department with daily responsibilities and media relations. Responsibilities include: producing copy for our web site and magazine; assisting in research for publications; aiding in event plan execution; editing press releases; assembling press kits; fulfilling donation requests; updating email lists; assembling media credentials; assembling monthly clipping packets; producing Inside Pitch stories; and assisting with Club Content. Candidates must possess some or all of the following qualities: enjoyment of baseball, high energy level, flexible disposition, reliability, good writing and organizational skills, basic computer proficiency.

Majors in journalism, communications preferred

Licensing & Sales

The Licensing and Sales Intern will participate in the planning, development, and implementation methods for reaching potential licensing partners. Additional responsibilities will include: update and maintain recordkeeping system and procedures for existing licensing agreements, reviewing agreement terms, royalty payouts, product approval, and proper use of the NBHOF mark. Manage existing NBHOF licensing agreements – review and understand business relationship for each. Intern will also work to identify potential groups/facility renters who might visit the area and the NBHOF. Help shape the marketing plan and outreach for the department.

Special Events

Responsible for assisting the Special Events team in the planning, execution and follow-up of Hall of Fame Weekend 2015. Daily responsibilities will support the logistics, operations and hospitality functions of the event weekends, ranging from database management to vendor coordination to hospitality and guest management and communication. On-site management of events is required. Additional event assistance will also be required, as needed
