Artifacts from Ichiro’s 3,000th Big League Hit on exhibit at Hall of Fame Starting Aug. 16

As his 16th history-making season in Major League Baseball winds down, Ichiro Suzuki is still adding to his list of memorable moments.

But no matter when he makes his final appearance on the diamond, Ichiro’s story is already being preserved in Cooperstown.

The newest member of MLB’s 3,000-hit club, Ichiro added to his legacy at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum by donating artifacts from his 3,000th hit – a triple on Sunday, Aug. 7 in the Miami Marlins’ game against the Colorado Rockies in Denver. Ichiro donated several game-worn artifacts to Hall of Fame President Jeff Idelson the following day – Monday, Aug. 8 – during a press conference in Miami.

Artifacts donated to the Hall of Fame that Ichiro used during his 3,000-hit at-bat included:

 Marlins road jersey and pants
 Spikes
 Batting gloves
 Wrist bands
 Elbow guard
 Socks

A collection of these artifacts will be on display in the Museum’s Whole New Ballgame exhibit beginning Tuesday, Aug. 16.

The Museum’s collection now contains more than two dozen three-dimensional artifacts donated by Ichiro since 2000, starting with a bat from his seventh batting title with Orix of the Nippon Professional Baseball Pacific League. The collection also includes the bat used to collect his record 262nd hit in 2004; his batting helmet from the inaugural World Baseball Classic in 2006; and the spikes from his 500th career stolen base recorded this April.

As part of the Museum’s celebration of Ichiro’s milestone hit, the Hall of Fame is offering free admission to visitors presenting a Miami Marlins ticket from any 2016 regular season home game. Each Marlins ticket is good for one Museum admission through the end of 2016, and tickets must be surrendered upon admission to the Museum.
