Education and Outreach
MORE THAN A NEW EXHIBIT
The Black Baseball Initiative is more than a new exhibit in Cooperstown. We are developing a new online interactive as well as outreach programs that are having a positive impact on communities.
OUTREACH PROGRAMS
We have hosted more than 1,000 students and teachers from low-income communities across Upstate New York. These experiences provided students and teachers with complimentary round-trip tour bus transportation, nutritious boxed lunches, a guided museum experience with our museum teachers and a goodie bag with resources to continue their learning journey at home.
We have created and shipped School Resource Kits comprised of educational materials, activities, supplies, and replica artifacts to elementary schools.
We are hosting virtual programs exploring the stories of Black baseball. These programs can be joined live or accessed via the Museum's YouTube channel.
We are regularly publishing Black baseball stories on our website and distributing them via multiple social media platforms.
We are featuring stories about Black baseball in the Museum's official magazine, Memories and Dreams.
We have launched educational programs for Museum visitors with a focus on Black baseball history.
We are building an educational online interactive to deliver the story of Black baseball and its role in Civil Rights movement to students across the Country.

We will be publishing a companion volume to the exhibit with Dr. Gerald Early serving as editor.

VOICES OF THE GAME WITH LARRY LESTER
A special Virtual Voices of the Game program with author and historian Larry Lester, who will discusses his role as a guest curator on the Hall of Fame’s Black Baseball Initiative, along with his donation of many recorded interviews with significant black baseball figures.
VOICES OF THE GAME WITH DUSTY BAKER
Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker, the leader of the world champions, joined us for a special edition of Virtual Voices of the Game. We spent time discussing Dusty’s relationship with Hall of Famer and teammate Hank Aaron. Baker was a two-time All-Star during his playing career which featured seven seasons as a teammate of Hank Aaron with the Braves.
