Celebrate Memorable Year in Cooperstown at Community Day Oct. 1

Residents of Otsego County Receive Free Admission to Fenimore Art Museum, The Farmers’ Museum and Hall of Fame

(COOPERSTOWN, NY) – It takes teamwork to power America’s Most Perfect Village, and the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is celebrating the spirit that is on display every day in Cooperstown with the 2017 edition of Community Day.

Residents of Otsego County will be provided with complimentary admission to the Baseball Hall of Fame, Fenimore Art Museum and The Farmers’ Museum on Sunday, Oct. 1 as Cooperstown recalls a memorable 2017 and looks forward to another historic year in 2018.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 1, while Fenimore Art Museum and The Farmers’ Museum will each be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day.

At the Hall of Fame, visitors are invited to experience the Museum’s new additions from 2017, including artifacts from the 2017 season and plaques and exhibits from the Class of 2017. The Museum will also offer a variety of family-oriented programming throughout the day, all included with Museum admission:

11 a.m. – Plaques of the Gallery Tour: This 20-minute guided tour educates visitors about the history and tradition of the Hall of Fame Gallery. Guests will learn the ins and outs of the Hall of Fame induction process, the methods by which each plaque is made and installed, and the stories behind them. Plaque Gallery

12 p.m. – Open Hour in the Learning Center: This interactive room allows families to explore baseball history through hands-on items from the Hall of Fame’s education collection. Learn how the equipment and style of the uniforms have changed over time. Learning Center

2 p.m. – So You Think You Know Baseball? Test your knowledge of baseball history in this interactive game show for fans of all ages. Make your way through all nine innings, and you could win a free commemorative Hall of Fame gift. Put your wits to the test and see if you’ve got what it takes to walk away a winner. Bullpen Theater

3 p.m. – A Hall for Heroes Film Screening: Join us for a special screening of this film produced by MLB Advanced Media and narrated by Bob Costas as we honor the Hall of Fame Inductees. This film tells the story of the founding of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum and the first Induction Ceremony, held in 1939. Bullpen Theater

At Fenimore Art Museum, experience seven current exhibitions and permanent collections including The Art of Figure Skating Through the Ages: The Dick Button Collection and the new exhibit Our Strength Is Our People: The Humanist Photographs of Lewis Hine. At The Farmers’ Museum, enjoy the final day of Fabulous Fiber Arts Weekend. Explore the world of natural fibers through a variety of demonstrations, mini-exhibits and hands-on activities showing how they are harvested, processed and transformed into wearable, utilitarian and decorative items. See museum interpreters and local quilting clubs, spinning clubs, and guilds demonstrate how flax becomes linen, wool and cotton is spun on various spinning wheels and produces textiles on looms or through needle arts. Afterward, reacquaint yourself with the timeless Historic Village, friendly farm animals and engaging interpreters – characteristics that make this attraction a destination for travelers from around the country.

In order to gain free admission to each museum, visitors must present a government-issued identification with an Otsego County address at each museum’s main ticket booth.
