USA Baseball Women’s National Team Plays Japan’s Madonna Stars Saturday and Sunday at Doubleday Field
Historic Cooperstown Ballpark to Host Some of the World’s Best Female Players
(COOPERSTOWN, NY) – Cooperstown is where baseball history comes to life every day.
And this weekend, history will be made at the Village’s historic Doubleday Field as the USA Baseball Women’s National Team plays the Madonna Stars from Japan in the Cooperstown Women’s Baseball Classic.
The Classic, created to showcase the world’s best female baseball players on a national stage, will feature a four-game series July 10-12 in Central New York. The USA Baseball Women’s National Team, ranked No. 2 in the world in the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Rankings, was established in 2004. The Madonna Stars include players from Japan’s Women’s National Team, professional players from Japan’s Women’s Baseball League and university and club team members.
The initial game of the series will be played at 1 p.m. Friday, July 10 at SUNY Cobleskill, where the players will stay during their time in Central New York. Saturday, July 11 will feature a doubleheader at Cooperstown’s Doubleday Field at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., with the series finale on Sunday, July 12 at 2 p.m. at Doubleday Field.
Tickets are not required for the games, and the public is invited to attend.
Team USA will also host free youth clinics at 9 a.m. on Sunday, July 11 at SUNY Cobleskill and at 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 12 at Doubleday Field.
