2026 Major League Baseball Lou Gehrig Day
Lou Gehrig Day, held annually by Major League Baseball on June 2nd, marks the day Gehrig became the starting first baseman for the New York Yankees, the beginning of his incredible streak of 2,130 consecutive games played.
Join us as we honor Gehrig with a guided tour throughout the Museum highlighting his career. This guided tour will begin at the top of the staircase on the Museum's second floor.
New York Yankees first baseman Lou Gehrig announces his retirement during his famous "Luckiest Man" speech on July 4, 1939 at Yankee Stadium. Gehrig passed away nearly two years later from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. He was voted to the Hall of Fame by special election in 1939. (National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum)
