Brown Surges to Lead After Two Rounds at Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open

(COOPERSTOWN, NY) – Mark Brown of Oyster Bay, N.Y., shot a 65 on Thursday to take a seven-stroke lead after the second day of play at the Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open in Cooperstown.

Brown, who was in second place after Wednesday’s first round with a 65, sits at 9-under par 133 heading into Friday’s final round.

Mark Tucker of Cazenovia, N.Y., carded a 68 on Thursday, leaving him seven shots behind Brown following his opening-round score of 72. Roy Vucinich of Moon Township, Pa., is tied with Tucker at 140 after an even-par 71 on Thursday, while Skip Taylor of Flat Rock, N.C., was at 141 after shooting a 71-70 in the tournament’s first two rounds.

First-round leader John Elliott of Bristol, Conn., shot a 75 on Thursday to leave him tied for fifth with Craig Thomas of White Plains, N.Y., at 142.

The 36th annual tournament concludes Friday, with more than 80 senior golfers from throughout the country participating. The traditional post-Labor Day event is hosted by the Otesaga Hotel and its Leatherstocking Golf Course, with NBT Bank the presenting sponsor. An awards ceremony and check presentation to this year’s champion will follow the conclusion of play on Friday.

Proceeds from this event benefit Pathfinder Village, a residential community dedicated to children and adults with Down syndrome. Annually, the Seniors Open raises more than $50,000 for scholarships for Pathfinder Village, located in nearby Edmeston, N.Y.

Proceeds also benefit the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum educational programs, which enable the world-famous Museum to fulfill its educational mission and care for its collections.
