The Baseball Hall of Fame offers field trip and videoconference programs in all of the major subject areas! Below you will find lessons that you can use to support your field trip or videoconference experience, or that you may choose to use independently in your own classroom. Each unit is appropriate for students in grades 3-12 unless otherwise noted in the lesson plan. This Day in Baseball History
On February 4, 1976, a federal judge upholds a recent decision by arbitrator Peter Seitz, who had granted free agency to pitchers Andy Messersmith and Dave McNally. Both players had challenged baseball’s reserve clause. Messersmith will sign a free agent contract with the Atlanta Braves, while McNally will decide to retire.
