The Hall of Fame Celebrates Royals’ World Series victory

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will host Royals Weekend July 2-3 in Cooperstown, with the 2015 World Series trophy on display at the Museum both days. The trophy will be on exhibit at the Museum from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 2 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 3. Visitors will be permitted to take pictures with the trophy.

The Museum will be open from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. both days. Throughout the weekend, visitors can learn about the history of the Kansas City Royals through guided exhibit tours, artifact spotlights, player profiles, trivia contests, themed craft stations and other special opportunities. Curt Nelson, director of the Royals Hall of Fame, will be in Cooperstown to host a Museum program on Royals history.

Following Kansas City’s World Series-clinching win on Nov. 1, the Museum acquired several artifacts from the Royals, who notched the franchise’s first Fall Classic crown since 1985 with their victory over the New York Mets in the 111th World Series. Artifacts donated by the Royals and featured in the exhibit celebrating the 2015 postseason include:

• Jersey worn by Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer in Game 5, which featured his daring dash home with the tying run in the ninth inning

• Glove used by Royals catcher and World Series Most Valuable Player Salvador Perez throughout the Series

• Spikes worn throughout the Series by Royals center fielder Lorenzo Cain

• Road cap worn by Royals closer Wade Davis, who struck out eight batters in four innings of work and notched the Series’ only save

• Bat used by Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas, who hit .304 in the Series and drove in three runs

• Bat used by Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar, who scored four runs and drove in four more in the Series

Also included in the exhibit will be a jersey worn during the postseason by the Mets’ Daniel Murphy, who was named the Most Valuable Player of the National League Championship Series and hit seven home runs in 14 postseason games.

The 2015 World Series exhibit in Autumn Glory will be on display through the conclusion of the 2016 Major League Baseball postseason. Entrance to the Autumn Glory exhibit is included with Museum admission.

The Museum collections contain many artifacts documenting the entire history of World Series and postseason play, including Don Larsen’s cap and Yogi Berra’s mitt from Larsen’s 1956 perfect game; Joe Carter’s bat from his Series-ending blast in 1993; the jersey David Freese wore when he hit his game-winning home run in Game 6 in 2011; and World Series rings from the last century of Fall Classic competition.
