Tom Seaver’s Collection Now on Display at National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum
(COOPERSTOWN, NY) – As the Hall of Fame prepares to honor the Class of 2026 members, one of their legendary teammates will continue his legacy in Cooperstown.
Class of 1992 inductee Tom Seaver left much of his personal collection to the Hall of Fame when he passed away in 2020. The Museum will display some of the dozens of pieces of his collection in a display that is now open in the Museum.
One of the faces of baseball during the 1970s, Seaver compiled 311 victories, 3,640 strikeouts and three National League Cy Young Awards during a 20-year career with the Mets, Reds, White Sox and Red Sox. When he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1992, he garnered 98.8 percent of the vote from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America – which at the time was the highest percentage of the vote in the history of the BBWAA balloting.
Artifacts from the Tom Seaver collection now on display at the Hall of Fame include:
- Baseball from his first major league victory, a 6-1 win over the Chicago Cubs on April 20, 1967
- National League Rookie of the Year Award, 1967
- National League Cy Young Award from 1975
- One of several gloves he used during his first 11 seasons with the Mets
- Knee pad worn to protect his right knee when it scraped the ground as part of his classic "drop-and-drive" delivery
- A Mets home jersey from the 1977 season
- A baseball from his June 16, 1978, no-hitter
- The White Sox jersey he wore during his 300th career win on Aug. 4, 1985
Tom Seaver, his wife Nancy, and daughters Anne and Sarah generously donated these and hundreds of other baseball artifacts to the Hall of Fame.
The new display will be part of the July 24-27 Induction Weekend celebration when Carlos Beltrán – who will become the third Mets player, following Seaver and Mike Piazza, with a Mets logo on his Hall of Fame plaque – Andruw Jones and Jeff Kent are inducted into the Hall of Fame. The new Tom Seaver display was generously supported by Bill Janetschek, William Montgomery and many other individual donors.
