Celebrate Memorable Year in Cooperstown at Community Day Sept. 27

It takes teamwork to power America’s Most Perfect Village, and the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is celebrating the spirit that is on display every day in Cooperstown with the 2015 edition of Community Day.

Residents of Otsego County will be provided with complimentary admission to the Baseball Hall of Fame, the Fenimore Art Museum and The Farmers’ Museum on Sunday, Sept. 27 as Cooperstown recalls a memorable 2015 and looks forward to another historic year in 2016.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 27, while the Fenimore Art Museum and The Farmers’ Museum will each be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day.

At the Hall of Fame, visitors are invited to experience the Museum’s new additions from 2015, including artifacts from the 2015 season and plaques and exhibits from the Class of 2015. The Museum will also offer a variety of family-oriented programming throughout the day, all included with Museum admission:

2:30 p.m. – Plaques of the Gallery Tour, including stories behind the Class of 2015 plaques (Plaque Gallery)

2:30 p.m. – Cider – donated by Fly Creek Cider Mill & Orchard – and Donuts in the Museum’s Education Atrium

3 p.m. – Season Review and Q&A with Hall of Fame President Jeff Idelson (Bullpen Theater)

At the Fenimore Art Museum, visitors can see a new exhibition featuring the art of Lavern Kelley (1928-1995), who lived just outside of Oneonta on his family’s farm. The exhibition, Lavern Kelley: The Art of the Farm, surveys a full range of works by Kelley – approximately 25 carvings plus numerous drawings and photographs. It delves into the development and abundance of the creativity of the artist, from drawings done in his teens and early twenties of working farmers and loggers to the carved and assembled painted wood sculptures of trucks and other farming equipment, human figures, and animals for which he is best known. At The Farmers’ Museum, enjoy free carousel rides throughout the day. Then, reacquaint yourself with the timeless Historic Village, friendly farm animals and engaging interpreters – characteristics that make this attraction a destination for travelers from around the country.

In order to gain free admission to each museum, visitors must present a government-issued identification with an Otsego County address at the Museum’s main ticket booth.
