Maine-Endwell Little League World Series Champs to be Honored at Hall of Fame on Sunday

Team Has Donated Signed Baseball, Photo to Museum Collection

(COOPERSTOWN, NY) – They captured the Little League World Series title this summer, along with the hearts of fans across the globe.

Now, the Maine-Endwell (N.Y.) Little League World Series team will be honored at the home of baseball, just a short 80-mile drive from where it all began for a group of 11 players who refused to lose.

The Maine-Endwell team, champions of Little League’s Mid-Atlantic region, defeated a team from Seoul, South Korea, 2-1 in the LLWS championship game Aug. 28 in South Williamsport, Pa. The win marked the last of 24 straight games without a loss for the team from adjoining Binghamton-area towns with a combined population of fewer than 20,000. The worldwide tournament started this summer with about 7,500 teams vying for the title.

Team members and coaches will visit the Hall of Fame on Sunday, Oct. 23, and be honored in a special 1 p.m. ceremony in the Museum’s Plaque Gallery hosted by Hall of Fame President Jeff Idelson. Earlier this year, the team donated a signed baseball and a team photo to the Museum’s collection, both of which are now on exhibit in the Museum.

Maine-Endwell became the first team from New York State to win the Little League World Series title since a team from Staten Island in 1964. Maine-Endwell also became the first team to win the Jack Losch Little League Baseball World Series Sportsmanship Award in the same season that it won the overall title.

Media interested in attending the event must reserve space via the Museum’s Communications Department by calling 607-547-0215.
