Ford Shoots a Second Round 65 to Take the Lead After Two Rounds at Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open

Two Golfers One Shot Back Heading Into Friday’s Final Round

(COOPERSTOWN, NY) – Steve Ford of Melbourne, Fla., shot a second-round 65 to take the lead on day two of the Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open on Thursday in Cooperstown.

Ford, who was one stroke off the lead after an opening-round 66 on Wednesday, holds a four-stroke lead over first-round leaders Kevin Savage of Baldwinsville, N.Y. and John Elliott of Westerly, Conn., after the second day of competition. Ford’s two-day total of 131 leaves him at 11 strokes under par.

Savage and Elliott both shot a 70 on Thursday, tying for second place, leaving them seven-under par at 135.

Tim Conley of Scottsdale, Ariz. currently holds fourth place, after shooting a 69, leaving him seven strokes off the lead at 138.

Alan Schulte of Fisher, Ind., followed Conley in fifth place, after he shot a 74 to bring his two-day total to 139.

The 34th annual tournament concludes Friday, with nearly 100 senior golfers from throughout the country competing for a total purse of $75,000. The traditional post-Labor Day event is hosted by the Otesaga Hotel and its Leatherstocking Golf Course, with NBT Bank the presenting sponsor. An awards ceremony and check presentation to this year’s champion will follow the conclusion of play on Friday.

Proceeds from this event benefit Pathfinder Village, located in nearby Edmeston, N.Y., a residential community dedicated to children and adults with Down syndrome. Annually, the Seniors Open raises more than $50,000 for scholarships for Pathfinder Village.

Proceeds also benefit the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum educational programs, which enable the world-famous Museum to fulfill its educational mission and care for its collections.
