Job Summary

There are two primary elements to the position: exhibit maintenance and graphic production.

Exhibit Maintenance

The employee is responsible for daily care and upkeep of exhibit components, ensuring they are maintained to a high level and conducting or arranging repairs when required. Employee will work with the exhibits and curatorial staffs in the installation and deinstallation of artifacts and general artifact handling, as well as artifact labels. Candidate must be a “self-starter” with a strong customer service ethic, the ability to analyze situations and troubleshoot problems, and be able to deliver appropriate solutions. Ideal candidate will possess a general working knowledge of accepted museum/gallery standards in regards to exhibit maintenance and construction, painting skills, and the use of tools and equipment.

Graphic Production

The employee is responsible for the graphic production of print graphics produced in-house. Currently the HOF has a HP 26500 large format printer, which utilizes various media types. Ideal candidate will possess knowledge of basic technical art skills, be able to accurately measure and cut substrates, mount and trim exhibit graphics and signs, and produce and install graphics.

Primary Job Functions

• Cleans and maintains exhibit spaces including case interiors and exhibit furniture.
• Supports exhibit maintenance and repair needs. Where possible, effect immediate repairs and assess the need for changes in design or materials.
• Assists in artifact installation and deinstallation.
• Performs case lighting adjustment as needed
• Produces digital prints – mounts, laminates, trims and installs graphics to finished size.
• Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Observes safety and risk management procedures in public areas and work spaces.

Secondary Job Functions

• Assists other departments such as PR, Membership, Education, and Retail with signage, displays and various other requests.
• Investigates and keeps updated on new solutions, software, materials, and exhibition techniques.
• Participates in HOF-sponsored events such as Induction Weekend, HOF Classic Weekend, Fanfest, MLB events and other special events, as needed.

Job Qualifications

Education

• High School degree required. Higher education a plus.

Experience

• Knowledgeable in the use of basic carpentry techniques, hand tools, power tools, arts and crafts tools, paints and adhesives, and associated safety practices. Prior experience in a museum/gallery or sign shop a plus.

Abilities

• Experience in graphic preparation, production, and installation.
• Trained in artifact handling and use of archival materials.
• Computer skills such as Outlook, Word and Excel. Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator a plus.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit; extended periods of walking and moderate physical activity required. Capable of using hands to feel and manipulate tools and materials, and reaching with hands and arms. Employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Employee must be comfortable using a ladder.
