Virtual Voices of the Game: Steve Blass

We will celebrate Roberto Clemente Day with a special edition of Virtual Voices of the Game. Clemente’s friend and teammate, and recent honoree of the Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Fame, Steve Blass, will join us to discuss his relationship with the Hall of Fame outfielder.

Blass, who played with Clemente from 1964 to 1972, delivered the eulogy at Clemente’s funeral during the early days of 1973.

One of the Pittsburgh Pirates’ top starters in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Blass won 103 games during his career. In 1971, he pitched a complete game victory in Game Seven of the World Series, as the Pirates won their first title since 1960. After his playing days, Blass become a popular broadcaster on Pirates telecasts, serving in that role until his retirement in 2019.
