10:00 AM: SOUTHERN LEAGUE: A STORY OF MINOR LEAGUE INTEGRATION
Based on the critically acclaimed book by former major league pitcher Larry Colton, this presentation delves into the story of the 1964 Birmingham Barons. Featuring future major leaguers like Blue Moon Odom and Tommie Reynolds, the Barons became the first integrated team in the history of both Birmingham and the state of Alabama. And to cap off their milestone season, the Barons nearly won the Southern League championship.
10:30 AM: PLAQUES OF THE GALLERY TOUR
Aimed at visitors of all ages, this program educates visitors about the history of the Hall of Fame Gallery and the process by which each plaque is made and installed in this 20 minute guided tour.
12:00 PM-1:00 PM: BLACK HISTORY POP-UP IN THE LEARNING CENTER
In this interactive Pop-Up, visitors can explore images, hands-on items from the Hall of Fame’s education collection, and select artifacts that relate to Black baseball history.
