Matt Christopher: The Kid Who Only Hit Homers Celebration

1:00 pm: Author Series
Join us for a special Author Series program with Dale and Duane Christopher, the sons of the late Matt Christopher, who wrote the popular children’s book, The Kid Who Only Hit Homers.

The Christophers led the effort that resulted in a 2021 feature film based on their father’s book.

Duane and Dale will discuss their father’s work as a children’s baseball writer, along with the making of the film.

7:00 pm: Movie Screening

Come join us for a screening of The Kid Who Only Hit Homers in the Grandstand Theater.

Based on the children’s book written by Matt Christopher, the 52 minute film tells the story of 12 year old baseball player Sylvester Coddmeyer. Lacking confidence in his playing skills and on the verge of quitting the game he loves, Sylvester’s fortunes change when he is approached by the ghost of Babe Ruth. Consulting Ruth for guidance, Sylvester experiences unexpected success at the plate and becomes one of the best hitters around. How will Sylvester handle his newfound talent and national fame?

Find out more about Sylvester’s story on July 9th at 7 pm. Following the screening, we will conduct a short Q&A session with Dale and Duane Christopher, sons of the late Matt Christopher, and actors Alex Montero and Lucas Nappe.

This event is free of charge, but tickets will be necessary. Please reserve your tickets here.
