Virtual Author Series: Steve Steinberg

Mike Donlin: A Rough and Rowdy Life from New York Baseball Idol to Stage and Screen by Steve Steinberg and Mike DonlinJoin us on Thursday evening, October 3, at 7 pm Eastern Time for a Virtual Author Series program with Steve Steinberg, co-author of Mike Donlin: A Rough and Rowdy Life from New York Baseball Idol to Stage and Screen. Donlin was a brash, colorful, and complicated personality who became the most popular athlete in New York and a star on the powerful New York Giants teams of 1905 and 1908. But he was also haunted by tragedy, including the deaths of both of his parents as a boy.

Donlin’s temper and combativeness led to battles with umpires and fans, suspensions from the game, and even time in jail. In 1906, when Donlin married vaudeville actress Mabel Hite, his life changed for the better, and their love story captivated the nation. Donlin left baseball after his sensational comeback in 1908, joining Mabel on the stage, and likely losing a Hall of Fame career.

As always, our Virtual Author Series programs are free of charge, but registration is required. Click here to register.

Once capacity is reached via Zoom connection, participants may join us live on the Hall of Fame's Facebook.
