Film Screening and Cooperstown History Program: Called Up: The Emmett Ashford Story
On Wednesday, October 28, we will screen the new documentary about Emmett Ashford, the first Black umpire in the history of the established major leagues; his remains are buried in Cooperstown's Lakewood Cemetery, which overlooks Lake Otsego. The film, titled "Called Up: The Emmett Ashford Story," will be shown in the Hall of Fame Library's Bullpen Theater, beginning at 1 pm.
After the screening of the one-hour film, we will take interested visitors on a brief tour of another cemetery in Cooperstown, the Christ Church Graveyard, which contains the burial locations of Cooperstown
founder William Cooper and famed novelist James Fenimore Cooper.
The film and graveyard tour are free for Museum visitors.
