Celebrate Women’s History Month with Stories, Programs at Hall of Fame

(COOPERSTOWN, NY) – From the game’s earliest pioneers to today’s trailblazers on and off the field, women have long been integral to the success of the National Pastime.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum chronicles the historic efforts of women in baseball every day via exhibits, online resources and educational programing – and spotlights these stories during Women’s History Month in March.

Visitors to the Museum in Cooperstown will discover Diamond Dreams, the second-floor exhibit which features artifacts ranging from All-American Girls Professional Baseball League tunics to equipment used by some of the earliest female baseball stars. One of the Museum’s most popular exhibits, Diamond Dreams features a new display opening this March that highlights the incredible contributions of women in baseball in just the last decade. Artifacts in the new exhibit include:

  • Helmet worn by Brown University’s Olivia Pichardo in 2023 when she became the first woman to appear in an NCAA Division I baseball game
  • Cap worn by Genevieve Beacom when she became the first woman to pitch in the Australian Baseball League in 2022
  • Jersey worn by Rachel Balkovec when she managed her first game with the Tampa Tarpons, Class A affiliate of the New York Yankees, in 2022

Fans can also experience women’s history through virtual programs and on-site events hosted by the Museum’s team of educators. Upcoming events include:

Thursday, March 4 at 1 p.m. ET: Join us for a Virtual Field TripWomen’s History: Dirt on Their Skirts, which is geared toward students and families. In this program, students and their families will explore milestones and events in the history of women and girls in baseball to determine how their achievements led to greater opportunities for all.

Each Friday this March at 1 p.m. ET: Experience the Women’s History Month Pop-Up, an interactive that explores images, artifacts, and items from the Hall of Fame’s education and museum collections that tell the story of women in baseball. These events are included with Museum admission.

Friday, March 21 at 1 p.m. ET: Join a Museum educator in an Exhibit Encounters event exploring Diamond Dreams, the Museum’s popular exhibit telling the story of women in baseball. This event is included with Museum admission.

Tuesday, March 25 at 1 p.m. ET: Kat Williams, a professor of women’s sport history at Marshall University and president of the International Women’s Baseball Center, joins us for a Virtual Voices of the Game event.

The Museum is also debuting School Resource Kits focusing on women in baseball to support the delivery of the Museum’s Women’s History curriculum. The Women in Baseball School Resource Kit provides materials to support educators in a classroom setting. The curriculum explores diverse women’s stories in the world of baseball and aligns with national learning standards.

The kits are available at no cost to public schools, while supplies last. Resource Kits are available for Intermediate Level (Grades 6-8) classrooms. Specifically, each kit contains books, facsimile objects from the Hall of Fame Archives and Collections, school supplies, printed materials, lesson plans, virtual resources and a 3-D reproduction of an artifact.
