Baseball Writers’ Association of America Election Results Revealed Wednesday, Jan. 24

(COOPERSTOWN, NY) – The most anticipated moment on the baseball calendar comes Wednesday, Jan. 24, with the announcement of the results of the annual Baseball Writers’ Association of America Hall of Fame election.

The results of the 74th BBWAA Hall of Fame election will be revealed at 6 p.m. ET on Jan. 24. MLB Network will air extensive coverage, interviews and analysis beginning at 3 p.m. ET, then televise the announcement live as Hall of Fame President Jeff Idelson delivers the results. The announcement will also be simulcast on MLB.com.

The 2018 BBWAA ballot features 33 players, including 19 new candidates and 14 returnees. Any candidate who receives votes on at least 75 percent of all ballots cast will be inducted into the Hall of Fame as members of the Class of 2018.

The 33 candidates (with the returnees in bold and their 2017 BBWAA election percentage in parenthesis) include: Barry Bonds (53.8%), Chris Carpenter, Roger Clemens (54.1%), Johnny Damon, Vladimir Guerrero (71.7%), Liván Hernández, Trevor Hoffman (74.0%), Orlando Hudson, Aubrey Huff, Jason Isringhausen, Andruw Jones, Chipper Jones, Jeff Kent (16.7%), Carlos Lee, Brad Lidge, Edgar Martínez (58.6%), Hideki Matsui, Fred McGriff (21.7%), Kevin Millwood, Jamie Moyer, Mike Mussina (51.8%), Manny Ramírez (23.8%), Scott Rolen, Johan Santana, Curt Schilling (45.0%), Gary Sheffield (13.3%), Sammy Sosa (8.6%), Jim Thome, Omar Vizquel, Billy Wagner (10.2%), Larry Walker (21.9%), Kerry Wood and Carlos Zambrano.

The Class of 2018, which already includes Modern Baseball Era electees Jack Morris and Alan Trammell, will be inducted July 29 in Cooperstown as part of the July 27-30 Induction Weekend. Admission to the 1:30 p.m. Induction Ceremony at Cooperstown’s Clark Sports Center is free and open to the public.
