Baseball Writers’ Association of America Election Results Revealed Tuesday, Jan. 22

(COOPERSTOWN, NY) – More than three-quarters of a century later, it’s still the biggest moment of the baseball season.

The results of the 75th Baseball Writers’ Association of America Hall of Fame election will be revealed at 6 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Jan. 22. MLB Network will air extensive coverage, interviews and analysis beginning at 3 p.m. ET, then televise the announcement live as Hall of Fame President Jeff Idelson delivers the results. The announcement will also be simulcast on www.MLB.com and at www.facebook.com/baseballhall.

The 2019 BBWAA ballot features 35 players, including 20 new candidates and 15 returnees. Any candidate who receives votes on at least 75 percent of all ballots cast will be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2019.

The 35 candidates (with the returnees in bold and their 2018 BBWAA election percentage in parenthesis) include: Rick Ankiel, Jason Bay, Lance Berkman, Barry Bonds (56.4%), Roger Clemens (57.3%), Freddy García, Jon Garland, Travis Hafner, Roy Halladay, Todd Helton, Andruw Jones (7.3%), Jeff Kent (14.5%), Ted Lilly, Derek Lowe, Edgar Martínez (70.4%), Fred McGriff (23.2%), Mike Mussina (63.5%), Darren Oliver, Roy Oswalt, Andy Pettitte, Juan Pierre, Plácido Polanco, Manny Ramírez (22.0%), Mariano Rivera, Scott Rolen (10.2%), Curt Schilling (51.2%), Gary Sheffield (11.1%), Sammy Sosa (7.8%), Miguel Tejada, Omar Vizquel (37.0%), Billy Wagner (11.1%), Larry Walker (34.1%), Vernon Wells, Kevin Youkilis and Michael Young.

The Class of 2019, which already includes Today’s Game Era electees Harold Baines and Lee Smith, will be inducted July 21 in Cooperstown as part of the July 19-22 Induction Weekend. Admission to the 1:30 p.m. Induction Ceremony at Cooperstown’s Clark Sports Center is free and open to the public.
