Black Baseball Programs, Artifacts Highlight Winter Break Week at Museum

(COOPERSTOWN, NY) – While many schools in the Northeast will pause for Winter Break, an outstanding educational opportunity awaits visitors at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

The Cooperstown shrine hosts special daily programs for kids of all ages Feb. 17-21 as part of Presidents’ Week. Families can experience unique Museum artifacts and get a guided look at the history of Black baseball with special daily programs celebrating the Negro Leagues and Black History Month.

All events are included with Museum admission. The lineup includes:

10:30 a.m. & 2:30 p.m.    Plaques of the Galley Tour Feb. 17, 19, 21                    Beginning at Buck O’Neil Statue

This interactive lets visitors explore images, hands-on items from the Hall of Fame’s education collection and select artifacts that relate to Black baseball history.

Follow our timeline taking us from baseball’s early days of integrated teams through the segregated era of the Negro Leagues and beyond re-integration led by Jackie Robinson.

1 p.m.             Civil Rights: The Negro Leagues Era Feb. 18           Bullpen Theater, 1st Floor

In 1920, Rube Foster convinced seven other Midwestern team owners to join him in forming the Negro National League. This program will explore the influence of Foster, the great players and teams that emerged from the Negro Leagues, and why the leagues ultimately came to an end.

Join a Museum educator as we explore The Souls of the Game: Voices of Black Baseball exhibit, which opened in 2024.

Test your baseball knowledge in the classic game show with a baseball twist.  With categories such as Stadiums, International Baseball and Award Winners, there is something for everyone.
