Golf with the Legends of the Game in Cooperstown as Part of East-West Classic Weekend
(COOPERSTOWN, NY) – Baseball’s biggest stars are heading for the links Memorial Day Weekend in Cooperstown, and Hall of Fame supporters can join in the action for an unforgettable golf outing.
The National Hall of Fame and Museum is giving fans a unique opportunity to celebrate the legends of Black Baseball as the Museum presents the East-West Classic Golf Tournament. The event will feature Hall of Famers Harold Baines, Jim Rice and Lee Smith, joining Fergie Jenkins, Jim Kaat, Fred McGriff and Ozzie Smith, who were previously announced as participants. The Hall of Fame legends will team up with East-West Classic players including Adam Jones, joining Josh Barfield, Ian Desmond, Ryan Howard, Russell Martin, David Price, CC Sabathia, Dontrelle Willis and Chris Young, who were previously announced as participants, to provide the experience of a lifetime for participating golfers at picturesque Leatherstocking Golf Course in Cooperstown on Sunday, May 26 – the day after the Hall of Fame East-West Classic at Doubleday Field.
Participants will enjoy an unforgettable day of golf. Individuals, pairs or foursomes of all skill levels are welcome to join the Hall of Fame East-West Classic Golf Tournament. A Hall of Fame member or East-West Classic participant will join each foursome and serve as the team captain. A fundraiser for the Museum, this scramble-format tournament will be played on the same course Hall of Famers play during Induction Weekend.
Overlooking picturesque Otsego Lake, the Otesaga Hotel’s Leatherstocking Golf Course is considered one of the East’s most scenic and historic par-72 layouts. Designed by the legendary Devereux Emmet in 1909, Leatherstocking has been rated “four stars” by Golf Digest’s “Places to Play.”
The festivities begin Friday night, with an exclusive cocktail reception in the Hall of Fame Gallery, including a chance to preview the new Souls of the Game: Voices of Black Baseball exhibit, which opens to the public the next morning. Saturday morning, participants will enjoy breakfast and an autograph session with the Hall of Famers. Golfers will then enjoy premium seating for the Hall of Fame East-West Classic, followed by a behind-the-scenes look at the Museum’s collections. Saturday evening includes access to Night at the Ballpark when Hall of Fame legends and former players will greet fans throughout Doubleday Field. On Sunday morning, a private breakfast precedes the tournament.
Each golfer also receives a Hall of Fame goodie bag, a golf shirt and a foursome photo. An awards luncheon concludes the event.
The cost is $3,000 per golfer and includes three days of activities while supporting the Museum’s mission to preserve history, honor excellence and connect generations.
