Experience Completely Renovated Grandstand Theater, Hear from a Hall of Famer at Community Day Sept. 29

(COOPERSTOWN, NY) – With another summer of family-friendly fun for visitors of all ages nearly complete, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will celebrate the spirit and teamwork that made it possible with the 2018 edition of Community Day.

Residents of Otsego County will be provided with complimentary admission to the Baseball Hall of Fame, Fenimore Art Museum and The Farmers’ Museum on Saturday, Sept. 29, as Cooperstown recalls a memorable 2018 and looks forward to more history in 2019.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 29, while Fenimore Art Museum and The Farmers’ Museum will each be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day.

At the Hall of Fame, visitors are invited to experience the Museum’s completely renovated Grandstand Theater, featuring state-of-the-art technology and the new Generations of the Game film. Hall of Fame President Jeff Idelson will welcome visitors to the Grandstand Theater prior to the 11 a.m. screening of Generations of the Game.

Community Day will also feature a visit to the Museum by Hall of Famer Roberto Alomar, who will be accompanied by Justino Clemente Walker, brother of Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente. A Voices of the Game program featuring Alomar and Clemente will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Museum’s Bullpen Theater.

Also on exhibit will be artifacts from the 2018 season and plaques and exhibits from the Class of 2018. The Museum will offer a variety of additional family-oriented programming throughout the day, all included with Museum admission on Saturday, Sept. 29, and free to residents of Otsego County:

10 a.m. – Plaques of the Gallery Tour: This 20-minute guided tour educates visitors about the history and tradition of the Hall of Fame Gallery. Guests will learn the ins and outs of the Hall of Fame induction process, the methods by which each plaque is made and installed, and the stories behind them. Plaque Gallery

11 a.m. – Grandstand Theater Program: Hall of Fame President Jeff Idelson will welcome members of the local community to the completely renovated Grandstand Theater, followed by a screening of the Generations of the Game. (movie will be shown on the hour throughout the day). Grandstand Theater

At Fenimore Art Museum, see seven current exhibitions and permanent collections including the acclaimed Thomas Cole and The Garden of Eden, Hamilton’s Final Act: Enemies and Allies, and the newly opened Seen & Unseen: Photographs by Imogen Cunningham. At The Farmers’ Museum, enjoy the opening day of Fabulous Fiber Arts Weekend. Explore the world of natural fibers through a variety of demonstrations, mini-exhibits and hands-on activities showing how they are harvested, processed and transformed into wearable, utilitarian and decorative items.
