Museum’s Author Series Program Brings Presidential Stories to Cooperstown
(COOPERSTOWN, NY) – Baseball and the White House have shared a strong connection through more than a century of presidential administrations.
This month in Cooperstown, author Tom Collamore, who served three United States Presidents, will share those stories and more in a special Author Series event at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
Collamore, co-author of Don’t Tell the President: The Best, Worst and Mostly Untold Stories from Presidential Advance, will discuss his book with moderator David Beightol at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, in the Museum’s Grandstand Theater. The program, which is free with Museum admission, will be preceded by an Artifact Spotlight with presidential memorabilia at 2 p.m. in the Grandstand Theater and followed by a book signing in the Museum Store.
As part of the Hall of Fame’s 2026 Baseball’s American Voices series, Collamore will discuss his decades serving presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush. Drawing on firsthand experiences in the White House and on the campaign trail, Collamore will share personal recollections, photos and video of U.S. Presidents as baseball fans while offering an inside look at the planning and unexpected moments behind presidential appearances.
Collamore, who joined Bush’s staff in 1978 and later held senior positions in the Reagan and both Bush administrations, co-authored the book with former Bush chief of staff Jean Becker.
Beightol is a former White House special assistant for intergovernmental affairs under President George H.W. Bush.
Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The program will be streamed on the Hall of Fame’s Facebook page.
