No. 1 First, The Field, if possible, should be a neutral ground; in form, a parallelogram or oval of Eighty-four yards in breadth by One hundred and twenty six yards in length which distances shall be marked by light movable posts with small red flags attached; the turf shall be well rolled and shall be as nearly level and free from stones and obstructions of every kind as possible for at least twenty one yards in every direction from the home and the first and third bases, and at least forty two yards from the second base; the bases shall be from “Home” to second base, forty two yards; from first to third base forty two yards eqidistant [sic]; and from Home to Pitcher, not less than fifteen nor more than sixteen yards on the line between the Home and second base; a post painted white to be placed at fifteen yards distance from the first and third bases, to mark the direct line between these bases and Home to each post a white flag shall be attached.

No. 2 The Bases, shall be flat circular canvas bags, filled with sand or sawdust, they shall be at least twelve inches in diameter and painted white; the home base and pitchers point of delivery of the ball to be marked by a flat circular iron plate covered with white enamel or other white substance to distinctly mark those places.
