Top
No. 9 A Player must make his first base after striking a fair ball, but should the ball be in the hands of an adversary on the first base before the runner reaches that base, or should the runner be touched by the ball in the hands of an adversary before he is able to get to the first base, it is a hand out.

Middle
No. 10 Players must make the bases in the order of striking, and when a fair ball is struck and the striker not put out the first Base must be vacated, as well as the next base or bases if similarly occupied.
Players may be put out on the second, third and Home bases under these circumstances, in the same manner as when running to the first base.

Bottom
No. 11 The Ball shall be made of india-rubber wound with yarn and covered with kid, lace leather, horseskin or buckskin, shall be perfectly circular, shall weigh between 6 and 6¼ ounces avoirdupois and be of from not less than 3¼ no more than 3⅜ inches in diameter.
The Ball played with shall be furnished by the challenging club and shall be the property of the winning club as the the trophy of victory.
