Education and Outreach

More than a new Exhibit

The Black Baseball Initiative is more than a new exhibit in Cooperstown. Through this initiative, we will develop new online content as well as outreach programs will make a positive impact on communities throughout the country.

Outreach

  • Design and launch an educational website targeting 5th - 8th grade students to deliver the story of Black baseball and its role in Civil Rights movement.
  • Promote and fund Museum visits for low-income school groups, with the goal of hosting at least 500 children from our region by the end of 2024.
  • Create "School Trunk" kits comprised of educational materials, activities, supplies, and replica artifacts to distribute to elementary schools.
  • Develop virtual programs for Boys & Girls Clubs, schools, and other community partners.
  • Augment programs in the Museum Learning Center with new Black baseball content.

  • Launch a curated collection of Black baseball artifacts on the Museum's Digital Collection Portal.

Publications

  • Publish a companion volume to the exhibit with Dr. Gerald Early serving as editor.
  • Feature additional stories about Black baseball on the Museum's website and in its bi-monthly magazine.
  • Increase the number of authors with books related to Black baseball participating in the Museum's Author Series program.
