About Andruw Jones

Andruw Jones was a World Series star before he was officially an MLB rookie, and from there the power-hitting center fielder only got better.

His talent offensively and defensively – along with a maturity beyond his years – put him on a path to Cooperstown.

Born April 23, 1977, in Curaçao, Jones signed with the Braves on July 1, 1993, as an international free agent. He rocketed through three minor league levels in 1996 before debuting with the Braves on Aug. 15 of that year, becoming just the third player from the Dutch Caribbean island to appear in the big leagues.

About Carlos Beltrán

And when the lights were brightest, Beltrán was at his best.

Born April 24, 1977, in Manati, Puerto Rico, Beltrán was selected in the second round of the 1995 MLB Draft by the Royals. He made his big league debut just three years later and earned Kansas City’s starting center field job in 1999, becoming just the eighth player in MLB’s Modern Era (post-1900) with at least 100 runs scored and 100 RBI in a rookie season en route to the AL Rookie of the Year Award.

About Billy Wagner

On the road to becoming one of the game’s greatest closers, Billy Wagner had much to overcome.

His childhood was anything but easy. And at 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds, many thought he didn’t look the part of an overpowering pitcher.

Yet, when his 16-year MLB career came to an end, no one could deny that Billy the Kid was one of the best.

Growing up in rural Virginia, a broken arm before age 7 forced Wagner – a natural right-hander – to become a lefty thrower.

About Dick Allen

In an era where run production decreased across baseball, Dick Allen fashioned numbers that left him with a permanent place in the game’s record book.

Born March 8, 1942 in Wampum, Pa., Allen signed with the Phillies as an amateur free agent prior to the 1960 season for a reported $70,000. After three full seasons in the minors where he averaged 100 RBI per year, Allen debuted with the Phillies as a late-season call-up on Sept. 3, 1963. By the following season, Allen won the Phillies’ starting job at third base – a position he had rarely played.
